National Physical Therapy Month Celebration

therapists in pyramid celebrate national physical therapy month

Pate Rehabilitation celebrated National Physical Therapy Month in October. Every year, the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) recognizes the impact that physical therapists and physical therapy assistants make in restoring and improving motion in people’s lives.

PTs are known as experts in treating any movement disorders.  They are required to have a graduate degree, typically a masters or or clinical doctorate as well as pass a national licensing exam.  PTs are knowledgeable in the fields of kinesiology, physics, human anatomy and physiology.

The APTA reports on the website  that more than 92% of the 210 accredited PT programs offer a doctorate of physical therapy (DPT) and more than 75% of current graduates hold the DPT designation.  As specialists in restoring and improving motion in people’s lives, physical therapists can help a person achieve results, in many cases without expensive surgery or the side effects associated with long-term use of prescription medicines.

PTs and PTAs work in a variety of settings including hospitals, private practice, outpatient clinics, home health, schools, sporting events, fitness centers and rehabilitation facilities.  They work with all age ranges from newborns to the elderly.  PTs  can help improve mobility, decrease or eliminate pain, reduce risk of injury, restore function, improve balance and prevent falls, and help recover from cardiovascular, musculoskeletal and neurological events.

Happy National Physical Therapy Month to all!
