Carlos Marquez de la Plata, Ph.D.
Director of Research
Dr. Marquez de la Plata’s research focuses primarily on identifying and ultimately improving neurocognitive and functional abilities related to various brain illnesses such as traumatic brain injury (TBI) and Alzheimer’s disease. As a clinician he supervises patient treatment plans and interdisciplinary treatment teams at Pate’s Dallas location.
In addition to his own research Dr. Marquez de la Plata has been instrumental in expanding Pate’s research department with an initiative called TIPS (Therapeutic Intervention Protocol Sharing). This program encourages Pate therapists to conduct their own research on creative treatment methods they have pioneered. The program combines the scientific method and the clinical creativity Pate therapists are known for to develop and evaluate new interventions.
As a bilingual neuropsychologist, Dr. Marquez de la Plata is also interested in developing neurocognitive measures appropriate for Spanish-speakers. Additionally, he is interested in improving rehabilitation outcomes of individuals of all cultural backgrounds, including those of ethnic minorities by emphasizing the use of client centered care.
