In 1974, Dr. Hayden lost her son, Ben, after he was hit by a car and died of a traumatic brain injury. At that time, medical and rehabilitation services for people with brain injuries were limited. Dr. Hayden became committed to improving the research and rehabilitation options for individuals after a brain injury, which ultimately led to the formation of Pate Rehabilitation.

Dr. Hayden’s passion to find new ways to help people has made Pate a leader in patient centered care. Our core values of Respect, Relationship, Integrity, Innovation, Compassion and Empowerment are found across our staff interactions, patient care, family support and advocacy work to improve brain injury rehabilitation. These core values are our foundation and help define the essence of Pate’s mission and culture.

The Ben Hayden award is given each year to an individual who exemplifies all of Pate’s core values. Each location nominates one person for this award. These individuals are celebrated throughout the company and are honored at a special banquet each Spring.

Megan Gamble

The Ben Hayden Award is a very special award for Pate employees.  It was established by the founders of Pate in memory of their son, Ben Hayden, who had an acquired brain injury and was the inspiration behind Pate Rehabilitation.   This annual award recognizes an employee who embodies Pate’s core values every day, which are Respect, Relationship, Integrity, Innovation, Compassion and Empowerment.  When PATE was acquired by BrightSpring Health Services this past year, we were really gratified to see that the BrightSpring Legacy Culture is in such close alignment with our core values and we were very excited to be able to continue this special acknowledgment.  This is a peer-nominated award and we are very proud to honor one of our nurses, Megan Gamble, this year.  Here are some comments from her co-workers:

Megan has handled every pressured, stressful situation with grace, respect for others, and compassion. She is dependable, intelligent and caring. She demonstrates the core values with every patient and staff interaction. Megan is an example of a stellar nurse and maintains a great quality of care. Her site consistently achieves over 99.9% medication accuracy given thousands of medication administrations each week.

Megan communicates with others with respect. She listens in order to understand and keeps others informed. Megan helps the staff in the nursing department to feel empowered and encourages them to find creative solutions to any problems that arise at Pate’s Brinlee Creek Ranch.  Megan follows through on commitments and volunteers for extra tasks. She is a caring and compassionate nurse and she not only cares for patients during the week, but she also cares for foster children in her home. She is dedicated to her profession and always puts others before herself.

Megan consistently fosters healthy relationships and respect toward others. She looks for ways to improve processes every day and she does everything with grace, even under pressure. She is truly an asset to Pate, RWW and BrightSpring!  So, Congratulations to Megan Gamble as this year’s Ben Hayden Award Winner!
