Pate's rehabilitation program uses proven brain injury treatment technologies and equipment in its comprehensive program. These technologies are ever-expanding. We select technologies by reviewing evidence data ourselves and testing the equipment at our locations to ensure it is a proper fit for our patients and therapists.
Every person's injury is unique and their personalized treatment generally requires a range of therapies and equipment.
Pate's technologies include cutting edge robotics like ReoGo and Armeo Spring, interactive touch screen equipment such as the Sanet Vision Integrator, a range of computer aided gait (walking) technologies and much more.
Pate's highly skilled therapists are adept at using technology for optimal recovery. Sophisticated machinery blends with expert know-how, a process designed to provide maximum gains.
Technologies & Equipment
Aquatic Therapy Pool - Equipped with a pool lift, the pool offers resistance control, treadmill and video aided technology. Available at Brinlee Creek Ranch.
Ampcare - Used for swallowing.
ARMEO - A gravity eliminating or reducing robotic device that addresses upper extremity movement recovery with assessment capabilities. This allows for work on moving their arm while sitting upright and interacting with therapeutic tasks on a computer screen instead of requiring the individual to be on their backs or stomachs since that would not be a real life possibility.
Augmentative Communication devices - Dynavox, Prentke-Romich, Tobii and iPads can all be used for those who have difficulty with their speech. Therapists assist with the device to program personal information and personalized speech phrases.
Biofeedback - Computer assisted sensor technology provides body feedback to assist in teaching relaxation skills for stress reduction and better sleep.
Biodex treadmill (often partnered with the Lite Gait body weight support device). Monitors step lengths and right-versus-left weight bearing during gait.
Biodex Balance Machine - Balance machine diagnostic machine.
The Biodex Balance Machine allows our therapists to help individuals shift their balance appropriately, determine where they are placing the majority of their weight, and gain better control of their balance.
It has a small platform that can remain static or create varying tensions. The screen monitors where the individual’s center of gravity is and their weight shift. This high-tech brain injury rehab equipment offers objective information to detail improvements that have been made or areas to work on.
Bioness L300 – This machine facilitates lower-extremity motor recovery during walking.
Bungee Mobility Trainer - Works on improving mobility, walking, balance, and balance reactions.
FitMi - Improves strength and coordination of arms and legs.
GaitRite - Offers deep insight into walking deficits. 16 foot mat embedded can analyze the walker’s gait and connects to the computer to display real-time result. Assessment tool and tracker that provides instant objective feedback.
LiteGait - Body weight support device as walking is re-learned. Control weight bearing, assist with symmetric gait patters, weight shifting, assist with coordination and balance, facilitate hip alignment.
Neuromuscular Electrical stimulation – These devices are used to stimulate the muscle movement. E-stim can be used on upper extremities, lower extremities, and the face and neck (for muscle weakness and swallowing treatment).
NeuroMove – EMG triggered NMES device. This machine requires active involvement as they attempt to move limbs on their own, and when reaching the activity threshold they then get the electrical stimulation as a ‘reward.’ The benefits are more brain connection and greater outcomes. (Electromyography (EMG) is an electrodiagnostic medicine technique for evaluating and recording the electrical activity produced by skeletal muscles. Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) is a non-invasive, non-addictive means of muscle rehabilitation after injury, surgery or disease. Patients with a wide range of orthopedic and neurologic diagnoses can benefit from NMES, which applies customized electrical stimulus to cause a muscle to contract.)
NuStep - Reciprocal step cardio machine for leg/arm strength and endurance.
IOPI - Measures tongue and lip strength to track progress.
iPad and iPhone applications - Therapists may suggest different applications for education, skills training, speech generation, and/or organization.
REO-GO - Robot technology for neurological and orthopedic impairments of upper body.
Rifton Gait Trainer - Improves lower extremity movement, endurance and strength.
SAEBO Glove - Extensor tone in hand to promote functional movement in upper extremity.
SANET- Visual Integration device is a great brain injury rehab equipment foundation; touch-screen large TV with programs that address visual, memory, and motor functions. This device is often used to address cognitive and motor skills needed for driving.
Sit to Stand Trainer - Helps patients practice sit to stand movements.
Ultrasound Machine- Used to reduce pain and inflammation.
VitalStim - Used for swallowing.
Visi-Pitch: This is used with voice, motor speech and auditory feedback deficits.
Vision Builder Computer - Program to address vision problems, including difficulty with eye movement and double vision.
*Branded equipment not available at all locations, however each location uses similar devices which may be of a different brand.
Additional Equipment
Driver Rehabilitation Vehicles
Pate is unique in offering real, on the road driver rehabilitation versus simulators. Patients who want to recover their driving skills go behind the wheel in vehicles that can be outfitted with special adaptive equipment if needed. Driver rehab is a very popular program as recovering your driver's license is a key step to independence.
Computers are used for a variety of purposes:
- Physical therapy programs
- Speech and language programs
- Vision programs
- Data entry/order processing
- Attention process training
- Pre-driving skills
- Typing practice
- Creating word and excel documents
- Retraining in social media and internet use
